Volcane Spins
Volcane Spins is one of those arcade games that looks simple on the surface and then quietly eats an afternoon. You guide a spinning disc across a landscape of molten channels and rocky platforms, timing each rotation to land on the right ledge. The controls are a single thumb affair — tap to spin, hold to charge a longer arc — and they click into place within the first minute.
We tested it over a long weekend and kept coming back for 'one more run.' The volcano in the background slowly builds pressure as you climb, which adds a nice sense of mounting tension without any fuss. Levels are short, so a failed attempt never stings; you just tap restart and go again. The art has a warm, glowing palette that reads clearly even in bright daylight on the train.
It's not a deep game and it doesn't pretend to be. What it does, it does cleanly: tight timing, readable obstacles, and a difficulty curve that respects your patience. If you want something to pick up for three minutes at a time, this nails it.
